Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
4 slices cheddar cheese or 1 cup shredded (mozzarella or provolone optional)
4 sesame seed buns
2 tbsp barbecue sauce
1 small onion (finely chopped or 1 tsp garlic powder)
2 cloves garlic (minced or substituted)
Black pepper to taste
Instructions
In a bowl, combine beef, onion, garlic, and pepper. Gently mix without overworking.
Divide into four equal patties, shaping slightly oval and 1/2-inch thick.
Heat a grill or stovetop pan to medium-high. Lightly oil the surface.
Place patties on the grill. Cook 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Add cheese 1 minute before finishing.
Brush burger tops with barbecue sauce. Toast buns 30 seconds on the grill.
Assemble burgers by topping buns with patties, cheese, and additional sauce.
Notes
For extra juiciness, press a thumb indent in the center of patties before cooking.
Use gluten-free buns for dietary needs.
Add toppings like lettuce, tomato, or pickles if desired.
Leftover patties freeze well for up to 2 months.
