- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot water or coffee
- 1 cup butter
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Mix dry ingredients together.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla and mix.
- Stir in hot water or coffee.
- Pour batter into pans and bake 30–35 minutes.
- Cool completely.
- Beat butter, sugar, cocoa, milk, and vanilla to make frosting.
- Frost cake and serve.
Notes
Use hot coffee to enhance chocolate flavor. Avoid overmixing the batter. Let cake cool completely before frosting. Store covered to keep moist.
